Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition training

We are currently training 17 students from Cefn Hengoed Comprehensive in Swansea for their Duke of Edinburgh expedition taking place this June and July.

This project has enabled access for these young people to achieve a Duke of
Edinburgh Award and all the benfits that go with it.

The impact this project is having on these young people is life changing.

We have seen throughout the weeks a deepening of friendships, each person developing
new skills and a growth in confidence and self-belief in what they can do.

Solid Ground Leadership programme with The Salvation Army

We recently ran a Solid Ground Leadership programme for The Salvation Army.

This was a real privilege, as we believe that investing in the development of young leaders expands their horizons for engaging not only in their community but further afield.

Loaded UK - working with The Salvation Army

We helped train and equip their young leaders by providing them with an adventurous mission to complete. Each individual had an opportunity to experience the sharp end of leadership during the journey.

The groups grappled with activities such as sea kayaking, climbing, trekking, caving, gorge walking, coasteering and camping out wild can be included.

These practical assignments provided a practical channel for creative expressions and innovation, which built on key concepts and leadership teaching - the young people applied what they learned!

The programme took the  people out of their comfort zones and into an adventure of personal discovery and growth.

It was intense!

Here's what some of them said:

Seeing others challenged and overcoming fears. I learned so many new things about myself, leadership and particularly learning to trust others.
— Simon Boer
A chance to learn, to fail, and to be encouraged, the mix of adventure and teaching has been the perfect combination.
— Mat Perkins – Salvation Army Regional Youth Leader
Awesome a life-changing experience, Thank you so much.
— Val Prescott – Salvation Army Officer
An amazing experience and a real challenge, I loved it.
— Rebecca Ellis

Jordon’s Story June 2017

Before I came to Loaded UK I would loose my temper often especially in the classroom. I would get frustrated that I could not do the work. The team at Loaded through their care, dedication and support helped me manage my anger so much better.

As I said in the past I would get frustrated with my work and end up throwing the book across the classroom. This year has helped me plan out my work better and get on with it and get things done. I saw the progress and this has changed my belief, that I can do it.

The teachers have noticed the difference in my attitude and how I’m not so defensive and abusive with my language.

A lot of this was down to learning to manage myself better. Loaded had a big impact in what I was eating and my diet. Loaded didn’t force this upon anyone they modelled it everyday through what they were eating and they inviting me to have a go. I began to think more about what I was choosing to eat and began to look after my health better. This has made a massive difference.

Thank you LoadedUK Team for all your care and support

Jordon gained his bronze Duke of Edinburgh with us and completed a Level 2 BTEC in Personal Social Development.

Consequently Jordon when on to be accepted at college and is currently developing working toward his profession certificate in carpentry.

Megan’s idea - Plas y Mor Community Project

Year 11 Student from Glan Y Mor

Megan came up with the idea of putting on a beauty and cosmetic experience for the women at the Plas y Mor residential home in Burry Port.

Megan said “ This would give the residence something to look forward to and show them that we care. It would also put smiles on their faces”

Feedback from one of the women at the residential home was very moving.

“ I am 87 this year and I have never had my nails done, I have loved the experience, big thank you to you all!”
